This is the time of year when ski resorts are raking it in with all the fresh powder, and many Coloradans are enjoying blue bird skiing -- but the priorities at Copper Mountain are a bit different.
We sent Denver7 reporters Hanna Atkinson and Connor Long to the mountain where they met great coaches, volunteers, and athletes. Copper Mountain has been home for the Special Olympics Colorado Winter Games for the past 27 years.
Many involved with the event say without the ski hills generosity and support the state games couldn’t happen.
Alpine ski coach Mark Field said he’s grateful because Copper not only gives athletes their own room to store all of their belongings, but closes down an entire run so athletes can do race training, and much more.
"They give us a deal on the tickets, they give our athletes a special season pass, which is fabulous, a lot of our athletes couldn’t do it without their help," said. Field
