Special Olympics athlete to compete at X-Games

You’ve heard of the "Flying Tomato" snow boarder, Shaun White, but how about the "Flying Spartan?"

Cody Field is an amazing snowboarder who has been with Special Olympics Colorado for ten years.  We caught up with him at Copper Mountain and asked him about his success.

The 23-year-old boarder is loud, and definitely proud, and he’s been getting a lot of attention recently. In the 2013 World Games in South Korea, Cody cleaned up.

"I never expected to get three gold medals, smackdab!" Cody said.

Denver7 reporters Hanna Atkinson and Connor Long found out Cody, once again, qualified for the X-Games, which are taking place later this month.

They asked Cody about the secret behind his thrill-seeking and snow shredding lifestyle. He replied, “I always have fun.”

Cody’s dad, Mark Field, said Cody’s enthusiasm is over the top.

You can cheer Cody on at the X-Games in Aspen from Jan. 28 to Jan. 31. Cody works at the King Soopers in Greenwood Village at Orchard and Holly – if you want to stop by and wish him luck.

You can watch Special Olympics Colorado stories every Saturday morning on Denver7 News.
