Vet helping others at service center

When the Volunteers of America opened their new Bill Daniels Veteran Services Center last summer, Chris Humphries jumped at the chance to volunteer at the front desk.

“I love serving my veterans being a veteran myself. I believe in paying it forward and paying back,” she told Denver7.

Humphries is part of the Volunteers of America Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She says she actually volunteered with the Red Cross for 30 years, but left that post when the Veteran Services Center opened and she was given the opportunity to help veterans like herself.

“I love the idea of this that we made this into a one-stop shopping place we have everyone and everything here.”

For all of her hard work, Denver7 honored Humphries with a U.S. Bank gift card, but she says the smiling faces of the veterans she greets and helps everyday are real reason she does the job.

“We have lots of nice veterans who really need assistance who really don’t know where else to go.”
