BOULDER, Colo. – Though the University of Colorado was fined a total of $75,000 by the Pac-12 after fans rushed Folsom Field following the Buffs’ win over Utah on Nov. 26, the organization actually spared them from bigger punishment.
The incident on Nov. 26 was the second fine of the season, according to our partners of the Boulder Daily Camera. The fine for the incident was $50,000.
The Pac-12 conference slapped the school with a $25,000 fine after fans rushed the field when the Buffs defeated Arizona State on Oct. 15.
"We know that fans get excited for big wins, but we also ask them for their patience to allow the teams to start clearing before they would consider coming onto the field,” CU spokesman Ryan Huff told the Camera.
The reasoning behind the fines is so that players and coaches from out of town have enough time to get safely off the field.
So how did CU end up not getting slapped with an even bigger fine totaling $175,000?
The conference decided not to fine the school after fans rushed the field when the Buffs won over Washington State on Nov. 19.
No reason was ever given as to why the school was not fined, according to the Camera.
