DENVER -- Some of the biggest challenges facing kids with Down syndrome are related to health and obesity.

That’s why the Dare to Play camps put together by the Global Down Syndrome Foundation are so important.

“We feel if we get them involved in sports early through our Dare to Play camps we’re setting the pace for the rest of their lives through a love of sports and healthy living,” said Michelle Sie Whitten, the CEO & Co-Founder of the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.

Through camps like the football and cheerleading camps recently held on the University of Colorado Boulder campus, participants learn skills and take part in team-building activities. During those camps, each camper is paired with a CU football player or CU dance or cheer team member, helping spread the message that everyone has more similarities than differences.
