DENVER -- A $100 tip and a few kind words from a customer reassured Osamah Ajour that America and Colorado is still a good place to live.

“I couldn’t believe it when I looked at it. We only talked for about two minutes and she left me this,” said the 24-year-old waiter at Denver’s Damascus Restaurant, referring to a $23.61 bill that included the big tip the day after the election. “This lady made me very happy.”

The customer, whom Ajour doesn’t want to identify, also wrote on the receipt “you belong here, and I’m glad you’re here.”

The customer asked him how he was feeling after learning that Donald Trump had won the presidency the previous night.

“I answered that I was hanging in there,” Ajour told the woman, adding he told her he was not a citizen but had been here for more than a year studying and working at the Damascus. “I said this country is way better than what happened Tuesday. She was just very nice, she was interested in how I was feeling.”
