Primary election day in Colorado is Tuesday

Tuesday is primary election day in Colorado.

There is just one state-wide primary race. Democratic senator Michael Bennet is running for re-election. While he has no opposition in the primary, Republicans have five candidates to chose from. The winner will face Bennet in November's general election.

All seven of Colorado's representatives are up for re-election, too. Four are facing challengers from their own party -- Diane DeGette (D-Dist. 1), Jared Polis (D-Dist. 2), Scott Tipton (R-Dist. 3) and Doug Lamborn (R-Dist. 5).

So far, Democrats in Colorado have returned 208,572 ballots, according to the Colorado Secretary of State's office. That's a turnout of 21 percent.

Republicans in Colorado have returned 239,483 ballots, officials said. That's a turnout of 24 percent as of Monday.

It is too late to mail your ballot. It must be dropped off in a ballot drop box or Voter Service and Polling Center by 7 p.m. Tuesday.

"Postmarks don’t count," officials said.

Also on the ballot are three Board of Education seats, three University of Colorado regent seats, 18 of 35 Senate seats, all 65 House seats, all 22 district attorney offices and assorted county commissioner races.
