The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is meeting for the third and final day of hearings Wednesday to consider whether to allow more oil and gas drilling in Colorado

The hearing will begin with 90 minutes of public comment on one specific application from Extraction Oil and Gas. The company wants to drill on three pads in Broomfield County, near Northwest Parkway, west of I-25.

Adams County has previously filed a protest against the plan, noting it would negatively impact residents in nearby Adams County communities.

On Tuesday, officials from several north metro communities delivered a letter to the COGCC and the Governor’s office, arguing that the oil and gas industry is creating “border wars” between neighboring counties.

Adams County has requested to participate in Wednesday’s hearing as a “relevant local government” and is asking the COGCC to reject Extraction’s application.

If the COGCC does not allow Adams County to participate, leaders plan to use the public comment period to speak out. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the Chancery building at 1120 Lincoln St. in Denver.

On Tuesday, the COGCC approved a proposal to drill 140 well in Boulder County. On Monday, the first day of the hearings, the Commission approved a petition to increase setbacks around schools to 1,000 feet from the edge of school property rather than the edge of school buildings.
