FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — The Salvation Army says a mystery benefactor in Colorado has once again donated a gold coin worth about $1,500.
The charity says someone dropped a South African Krugerrand into a collection kettle in Fort Collins on Dec. 14. It was the 19th time in 20 years that at least one Krugerrand showed up.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan reported Friday the first coin showed up in 1998.
In 2000, a Krugerrand came with a note that said "Down but not out," and the next year, no Krugerrand appeared. But the giving resumed in 2002.
Salvation Army Capt. Isaias Braga says a man sometimes buys the coin after the donation. In 2015, the buyer gave his name but said he didn't want to be identified publicly.
Braga says he hasn't seen him since.
