Fallen heroes memorial gets much-needed boost from state lawmakers

Bill aims to raise funds for permanent memorial

DENVER -- There are still plans to build a permanent memorial to Colorado's fallen heroes on the grounds of the state Capitol.

A group of Coloradans launched the idea seven years ago, but it stalled out for a few years because of funding.

Now, it appears to be back on track thanks to a bill signed by the governor two months ago that authorizes a state Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund.

The permanent memorial will feature a bronze eternal flame and square like monument with rose-colored stone panels.

The memorial will feature names of all Colorado service men and women killed in wars since World War I.

Construction costs are estimated at $250,000. So far, organizers have only secured about $50,000 in cash and material donations.
