For a second weekend in a row, police presence will be strong along the 16th Street Mall after a series of violent crimes.

In the short-term, it appears the crime rate may be decreasing.

During the last week of June, before the increased enforcement, there were: four robberies and three aggravated assaults, according to Denver Police statistics. Yet during the past week, a big dip – two aggravated assaults.

"The Big Wonderful” festival will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday evening. Denver Police will be on patrol, along with private security hired by organizers.

"We have security as well, that we've brought to the event, so that will be additional on our block. We just have that at all of our events and you know, we've been 100 percent incident-free so I expect that to still happen on 16th Street," said operations director Melanie King.

Denver Police tell Denver7 staffing levels are continuously assessed.
