Starting Tuesday night  the Colorado Department of Transportation will begin work to repair a damaged concrete barrier on the approach to the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnel.

The work will require CDOT to reduce westbound Interstate 70 to one lane from 10 p.m. Tuesday until Friday at 8 a.m.

The extreme freeze-thaw cycles caused a concrete barrier in the westbound bore to crumble.

"Because we’re in a lower traffic volume period on the I-70 mountain corridor, we wanted to take advantage of this time to address an immediate safety concern by replacing this barrier” said Paul Jesaitis, CDOT Region 1 Transportation Director.

The lanes will reopen for weekend travel and work will resume at 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 24.

Speeds will be reduced to 40 miles per hour during the repair work.
