DENVER — It looks like the Denver Zoo will be adding to its sloth population again next year.

Charlotte, the zoo’s 23-year-old Linne’s two-toed sloth, is pregnant again. Zoo staff said they expect her to give birth in late February or early March 2019.

Charlotte and dad Elliot most recently welcomed a baby, named Ruth, on Jan. 28.

Zoo staff are keeping a close eye on Charlotte and her baby with regular checkups and ultrasounds.

Once the baby sloth is born, it will spend its first four or five weeks hiding in Charlotte’s fur and nursing. The baby will remain by mom’s side for up to nine months before finally venturing out on its own.

In the meantime, zoo visitors can see Charlotte, Elliot and Ruth in the Denver Zoo’s Bird World habitat.
