DENVER -- Singers from around Colorado and the country made their way to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for 'American Idol' auditions this weekend.

The 'American Idol' Tour Bus is going to multiple cities across the U.S. in search new stars ahead of its new season premiere on ABC this coming winter. People lined up as early as 1 a.m. on Saturday for a chance to prove themselves before the judges.

Families and friends watched from a distance as they auditioned outside the performing arts center. The people who were passed to the next round said they'll be working their way toward Hollywood.

"You know, I didn't know what was going to happen," said Denver native Dominick Michaels. "I just kind of went out there and did the best I could, and I just hoped I would make it through and I did."

The auditions continue for the people who make it through the first round. They will still have to go before the celebrity judges.

But not everyone got a pass through the first round.

"They said that I was good and they thought I wasn't feeling up to it today," said Nick Rogers. "Nerves got the best of me, but, yeah, they said to definitely come back next year."

'American Idol' will air this winter for the first time on Denver7.
