According to sources and national reports, Broncos GM John Elway called Von Miller over the July 4th weekend to jump-start long term contract talks. ESPN's Adam Shefter reported Elway and Miller spoke for about 15 minutes on the phone, with Elway telling the Super Bowl MVP the Broncos still want to sign him to a long-term deal.

Sources told Denver-7 Sports that Elway has spoken to Miller and his agents about resuming talks this week. There is no new offer from the Broncos and no changes to the last offer of 6-years and $114.5 million. Miller would accept the total numbers of that deal, but the guaranteed money is the sticking point. The Broncos offered $39.8 million in fully guaranteed money including signing bonuses and workout bonuses.

Miller is seeking 3-years and over $60-million guaranteed, which is the going rate for elite defensive players. Philadelphia's Fletcher Cox received $63-million guaranteed in his new contract. The Broncos have until July 15 to reach a deal with Miller. After that, the franchise tag salary of about $14-million kicks in for next season. Von stated on social media that he won't play for the franchise tag salary, meaning he would sit out if a long-term deal is not reached.
