It just clicked," Abner said.

After sending in the video, he was invited to a Zoom call where producers gave him a few quick tips and welcomed him to the show.

The show welcomes magicians from across the world, to perform original tricks in front of Penn and Teller. If Abner can fool the duo, he'll get the chance to open for Penn and Teller at their Las Vegas show.

For Abner, creating magic is an art form that is unlike any other.

When youre in the moment, theres no stress or worryjust the magic happening right in front of you," Abner said. Dog owners living in the Tapestry Hills neighborhood in Castle Pines say they are now on high alert after a dog was accidentally poisoned while walking through the area.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office's said the dog, Emma, consumed rodent poison and needed medical care.

"So far, our investigation revealed that it appears to be an accidental poisoning," said Douglas County Animal Law Enforcement Sgt. Bryanna Munns. "It appears that someone lawfully placed the poison in their backyard and that wildlife dispersed it throughout the Tapestry Hills neighborhood."

Emma's owner, Jens Loechert, said she is "slowly recovering from the poisoning but still has to take medication and another blood test." According to Lechert, Emma was poisoned on Dec. 28, 2024, and again on Dec. 30.

"For us, Emma and her healing process is our absolute priority at the moment and our intention in posting this incident on Nextdoor was only to warn other people," said Loechert in a statement. "If it is confirmed that the poison baits were not distributed with the intention of poisoning dogs and Emma unfortunately became a victim of this terrible product due to the combination of unfortunate circumstances, then this incident takes on a different dimension in our view. So if the person responsible wants to talk to us, our door is always open."

Munns said Douglas County Animal Law Enforcement officers combed through the neighborhood for additional poison on the day it was reported. They found tablets along open spaces in front of the homes and walking trails along the golf course area.

"We do believe that the concern has been eliminated. We're just still working to confirm those numbers so that we can guarantee that it's been eliminated and we haven't heard of any more animals," Munns said.

Henry Rewun and Aubry Aragon, both dog owners in the neighborhood, said they are still worried for their animals when bringing them outside.

"It's very concerning in that people really have to be aware of everything their dog does, and in order to keep them from eating the pellets, you've got to watch them constantly, which puts really a big strain on the walk. It's not fun anymore," Rewun explained. "Now it's a chore, but we have to go through it for the time being until we're sure that the pellets are all gone."

Munns said, at this point, they believe they "located and retrieved most of if not all of the poison that was placed in this area." She said the investigation is still ongoing and asks anybody who finds additional tablets or has Ring camera footage to contact their office.
Below are some Q&As to keep your pet safe from rat poison, and what to do if you think they have consumed it.
Q. What does rat poison look like, and what is in it?

It can come in a variety of different colors and materials, including pellets, bait blocks, powders and more, according to PetMD. It commonly contains the following active ingredients, which are all dangerous to pets: cholecalciferol, anticoagulants, bromethalin, zinc and aluminum phosphides. All of these can be fatal.

Q. What symptoms should I look for if I think my pet ate rat poison?

Pets may become lethargic and weak, vomit, have trouble breathing, avoid eating, have tremors or seizures, or seem to lack coordination. Here is a full list of symptoms based on specific types of rodenticides. Symptoms sometimes take one to seven days to show up, PetMD says.

Q. What do I do if I think my pet consumed rat poison?

Bring your pet and any remaining bait or packaging to the vet immediately. A vet will use the packaging to determine the best treatment for your pet.

Overall, the prognosis is very good for dogs who receive prompt treatment upon ingesting a rodenticide, PetMD says.

You can also call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.

Q. How can my vet help my pet?

A vet will start with a physical examination and will likely recommend blood and urine tests. Blood tests will often come back normal if the poisoning happens the same day, so a vet will need to monitor the pet. Depending on your pets status, the vet may also recommend a chest or abdominal X-ray, PetMD says.

In many cases, a vet will try to have your pet vomit.

Q. What treatment is available for my pet?

If your pet ingested anticoagulant rodenticide, treatment will include several weeks of Vitamin K, which can be taken orally, as well as IV fluids, plasma or blood transfusions and other care.

If the poison contained cholecalciferol or bromethalin, there is no antidote, but hospitalization with an IV and treatment to reduce calcium levels and decrease brain swelling will likely be recommended to the owner.

If the animal ate zinc and aluminum phosphide rodenticides, a vet may recommend medications that will slow down the effects of the deadly phosphine gas. They may also prescribe a liver-protectant medicine.

Most dogs will stay at the vet for a few days so they can be monitored.

Q. (AP) Wyndham Clark is feeling more pressure than usual at the BMW Championship.

Hometown events are not all that unusual on the PGA Tour Max Homa and Collin Morikawa in Los Angeles, Xander Schauffele in San Diego but they are rare in Clarks hometown of Denver.

I grew up coming to this place and always dreamt of playing this tournament, Clark said at Castle Pines. When they stopped playing here, it was kind of a stab to the heart for me because it was so fun coming out and watching it. To be back here playing in front of my home crowd is pretty special.

Clark had an unusual start in the game at a place called Mountain View Range, which since has been replaced by office buildings. He was 3 years old and full of energy. His father was out of town, and his mother was busy with Clarks sister and newborn brother.

She was like, Ive just got to get Wyndham out of the house. So she started driving thinking she was going to go to some fun play area and then saw the golf course that was pretty close to our house.

She pulled in, thinking it would be a distraction.

I ended up hitting two buckets of balls for like two, three hours and just loved it, Clark said. I just was fascinated with hitting the golf ball.

Clark, the U.S. Open champion last year, had been in a summer lull until he rallied at the Olympics partly motivated by chatter than Bryson DeChambeau should have been there instead for a 65-65 weekend.

He shot 64 on Sunday at the TPC Southwind to tie for seventh in the PGA Tour postseason opener. And now he finally gets a crack at Castle Pines, which last hosted the best players at The International in 2006.

Its amazing to see where I started at a local muni and then go into the college ranks and being here, its pretty awesome, he said. Its always fun coming home because I can see where my roots were and keep me grounded.
Matters of money
Xander Schauffele is curious why athletes in other sports are celebrated for the contracts they receive, and golf gets negative publicity when it comes to players earnings. Money in golf has been a big topic since the arrival of Saudi-funded LIV Golf and the PGA Tours response by raising purses to include 11 tournaments that pay $20 million or more.

Scottie Scheffler leads the money list at just over $29 million. Schauffele, a double major winner this year whose consistently high finishes rival Scheffler, is at $17.6 million.

If you look at how much the 10th-best player in the world has made, its not going to sniff how much Scottie has made. That just shows you how well Scottie has played in these big tournaments, he said.

Shane Lowry is at No. 10 with $5.7 million.

You look at the No. 1 quarterback, hes getting $60 million and then the No. 10 quarterback is getting 52 (million), he said. Obviously, theres way more money in football with TV and everything thats surrounding it. Its hard to compare the one versus one because Scottie has just been that much more elite. And I think he deserves everything that hes getting.
The vote
A popular question this time of the year is who should get player of the year. Its hard to beat the season Scheffler has had a major, Players Championship, four signature events and an Olympic golf medal but Schauffele counters with two majors.

Since the PGA Tour player of the year award began in 1990, the only double major champion not to win the award was Nick Faldo in 1990 because he wasnt a PGA Tour member.

Players have expressed different opinions on whose year they would rather have. How they vote wont be determined until sometime in September. Of course, that assumes they vote.

One player who wont be voting? Scheffler. He doesnt keep track of how often he has voted, but said, I dont think Ive voted for myself.

Maybe I havent voted in the past couple years when I felt like I had a chance to win, he said. I think maybe I didnt vote then because I dont think Id vote for myself. But just thinking of what I would do this year, I think since Im in the running I probably would just refrain from voting. I think it would be a bit weird to vote for myself.
Welcome back to Castle Pines
Only two players from the 50-man field have played at Castle Pines. Just dont get the idea Adam Scott or Jason Day has any advantage.

Scott played in 2000, just two weeks after he turned 20. He was making his debut at a regular PGA Tour event. Having just turned pro, he had played four times on the European Tour and in the British Open. He received a sponsor exemption.

Day was 18.

I do remember the elevation change after 1, Day said. I do remember 6 a little bit of 6. I know they changed that. I do remember 7. I know they lengthened that, as well. But some of the other holes are all fuzzy. Eighteen years is a long time.

His other memory was out of left field.

I do remember walking up these steps thinking David Toms has an amazing haircut, Day said. He had a visor on one time and there was not one bit of hair out of place. I was walking right behind him.

___

AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf
Wyndham Clark gets a Colorado homecoming at the BMW Championship

As the heat settles in across Colorado, local fire crews are staying busy, putting out several small vegetation fires in just the past few days.

"This has definitely been a busier week than we what we've seen," said Brian Willie, spokesperson for South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR).

A vegetation fire broke out Monday night near Thunder Ridge High School in Highlands Ranch. The cause is undetermined, but crews found several fireworks in the area. Willie said firefighters were quickly able to get a handle on the fire.

"The lucky thing about this fire is it was bordered by a parking lot to the left and the street to the right, so it really gave a good border for that fire," he said.

SMFR responded to four small vegetation fires on Tuesday.

"One of them was a party driving down 470 and saw a car sparking. Those sparks caused a very small vegetation fire at C470 and Broadway. We had a small power line issue in the Castle Pines area that started a small fire in a party's backyard. And then we had a couple others that were undetermined along a canal," Willie told Denver7.

The hot and dry conditions combined with the potential for fireworks during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday pose a high fire threat, according to SMFR.

"We just need everybody to really be careful with what's going on. If you're going to partake in fireworks this weekend and this coming week with Fourth of July, just be prepared," said Willie.

He said some helpful tips to stay safe include having a fire extinguisher and a bucket of water nearby to properly dispose of fireworks. Also, have a hose nearby in case a fire sparks.

Willie added that the most important thing is to not light fireworks off in a combustible area where there's grass or vegetation nearby. Instead, head to a driveway or parking lot.

"Any small spark, any small vegetation fire, could grow very rapidly," Willie said. "We really just want everybody to help us."

Willie said any firework that explodes or leaves the ground is illegal in Colorado.

The boil water advisory was put in place hours later, and remained in place after water service was restored due to the potential for "disease-causing organisms" in water with low pressure.

Testing deemed the water safe on Thursday.

The Castle Pines North Metropolitan District listed steps that should be taken by those in residential communities and food service establishments after the boil water advisory was lifted:

Residents
Run all cold water faucet taps for at least 5 minutes. Begin with the lowest faucet in your home and open faucets one at a time, moving from the lowest floor of your home to the highest. After five minutes, turn off your faucets in reverse order, from highest to lowest. Hot Water Faucets: To clear hot-water pipes and water heaters of untreated water, flush the hot water line for a minimum of 15 minutes for a typical household 40-gallon hot-water tank, 30 minutes for an 80-gallon hot water tank or larger. Dishwasher: After flushing the hot water pipes and water heater, run your dishwasher on empty one time. Ice machines: Dispose of any ice from before or during the boil order and flush the water feed lines by running the ice maker for 24 hours and disposing of this batch as well. Wipe down the ice bin with a disinfectant. Water dispensers on fridges: Water dispensers from refrigerators should be flushed through at least one quart of water. If unsure of your dispensers capacity, refer to manufacturer specifications. Humidifiers: Discard any water used in humidifiers, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), oral, medical, or health care devices, and rinse the device with clean water. Water filters: Replace all water filters.
Food Service Establishments
Flush pipes throughout the facility by running each faucet with cold water for 5 minutes. Flush, clean, and sanitize appliances that use tap water (such as beverage dispensers, spray misters, coffee and tea urns, ice machines, glass washers, dishwashers) according to the manufacturers instructions. Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle. Flush hot water tanks. Run drinking fountains continuously for 5 minutes to flush the system. Replace and sanitize water filter cartridges according to the manufacturers instructions. Take proper steps to flush ice machines by following the manufacturers instructions, including: Throw out any remaining ice. Flush the water line to the machine inlet. Close the valve on the water line behind the machine. Disconnect the water line from the machine inlet. Open the valve and run 5 gallons of water through the valve. Dispose of the water. Close the valve.
The water line break happened when crews were working on the Monarch Waterline Rehabilitation Project. The construction project is underway between Castle Pines Parkway and Glen Oaks Avenue to replace a major water line that dates back to the mid 1980s, according to the city.

The project will tear out the concrete roadway and replace it with asphalt. It will improve the drainage and storm water infrastructure and drainage infrastructure, as well as install 4,300 feet of new water line. It will also install a six-foot bike lane.

"Completing both the road and water line projects at once saves both money and time by reducing the need to remove infrastructure to replace the line in the future," the City of Castle Pines said.
Parts of Castle Pines lose water Wednesday morning due to waterline rupture

We need more snow, folks!

In terms of snowfall this year, he said Colorado is about three-quarters of where the state should be this time of year as the basins are dry but there is good news in the 7-day forecast and particularly the period between Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

Nelson said the 10-day outlook for precipitation shows Colorado should be in a wetter-than-average weather pattern as a slow-moving low pressure system is currently 1,700 miles from the state.

It is going to shift and drop down into the Southern Rockies on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and that should bring us a good, soggy storm, said Nelson. Not a lot of cold air but hopefully some decent moisture.

Nelson stressed the storm is still hundreds of miles away but better timing and snowfall potentials should come into focus over the next few days.

The exact track of this could shift. It might bring heavier snow farther south, it might take the heavier snow to the north but well keep a close eye on it, said Nelson. Its a good, significant storm system.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder added there is the potential for impactful winter weather across portions of the high plains and Rocky Mountains starting this weekend.

In its latest forecast discussion, the NWS said the chance for snow could ramp up as early as Saturday with the period most favored for precipitation by the core of the guidance would be Christmas Eve. Reiterating uncertainty around the storms timing and potential impacts, the NWS said there are indications of lingering precipitation into Christmas Day but some models show the region staying dry.

The NWS also said the storm could bring precipitation in the form of rain instead of snow which could eat into any snow totals."

In terms of actual snow totals by the afternoon of Christmas, the NWS in its forecast discussion said models show an increase in the chances of measurable snow over an inch.
