If you are currently serving in our nation's military or have served, Denver wants to say thank you. Restaurants across the metro area are offering their own token of thanks Tuesday. So are Colorado State Parks. See a list below:

Restaurants ask those interested call ahead and make sure the local business is participating in the deal. Bring your military ID or proof of service with you to show these businesses.

Rafting season is starting in Colorado.

When Colorado's snow melts, it flows into scenic rivers, creating conditions for rafting in late spring and early summer.

Colorado has multiple rafting companies that run trips on rivers across the state, from Durango to Buena Vista to Fort Collins.

You can choose trips from mild to wild. You can find day trips perfect for families, days-long trips for explorers and class IV and V rapids in the Royal Gorge.

If you're willing to get out early, several companies are offering discounts for early birds. Here are some deals:

During warmer springs and summers, the rafting season typically has a brief peak of higher water levels but doesn't last too long. Cool, rainy weather like we saw in 2023 creates a more steady snow melt and runoff.

The above-average snowpack and plenty of spring precipitation from 2023 led to the first commercial rafting season on the Blue River in three years.

Two deals make it cheap to take the kids skiing in Colorado, but you need to act fast.

Vail Resorts Epic Schoolkids gives kids in Kindergarten through fifth grade four days of skiing at each of its five resorts Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Crested Butte.

The Epic Schoolkids pass is free, but the deadline is October 11th.

The website has deals for some of Colorado's premium hotels like the Gaylord Rockies ($50 resort credit) and The Broadmoor (10% off). But there are also hotel deals starting at $99 at other locations.

If you just want a night away, consider using a deal to get 25% off at the Monarch Casino Black Hawk or Ameristar Casino Black Hawk.

LIBRARIES

Maybe you've got a card from your local library, but did you know some libraries in Colorado will give a free card to anyone with a Colorado ID. I have library cards from the Denver Public Library, the Jefferson County Library, the Anythink Libraries in Adams County. Arapahoe County, Park County and the Englewood library also give cards to anyone with a Colorado ID. Why get more than one library card? Because many libraries carry different books and if you've checked out most of the audio books at one library, you may want to try the selection at another library.

Some libraries also offer loans of interesting items like GoPro cameras, snowshoes and sewing machines.

Some also offer free museum passes.

AMAZON

If you have an Amazon Prime membership, it includes access to over a thousand books, magazines, comics, Kindle Singles, and more, for no extra cost. Visit Amazon Prime Reading to browse the available titles. When you find a book, comic or magazine, simply click "Read for Free," and the item will be available for download. Or click "Read and Listen for Free" for the titles that have Audible companions.

KINDLE

You don't have to buy a Kindle reader you can download one on your phone or tablet for free. Once you have the app, you adjust the font size and download books for free from the library or use the Kindle app to access books on Amazon Prime.

Halloween is going to be different this year, with some kids trick-or-treating and more families staying home. But there are still some freebies and deals available.

Chipotle's Halloween deal is back this year, but you have to get a code online and text it to claim your buy-one-get-one-free deal. Chipotle says, "A total of 500,000 BOGOs will be dropped via TikTok, Twitter and Instagram from October 29 to October 31. To claim their BOGOs, fans will have to act fast and text the valid keyword to 888-222 before Chipotle's virtual House of BOGOs runs dry. Colorado Ski County will offer its 5th and 6th grade passports in 2020-21, but there are changes.

Fifth graders still get free lift tickets for the 21 Colorado Ski Country resorts around the state Arapahoe Basin, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Cooper, Copper Mountain, Echo Mountain, Eldora, Granby Ranch, Howelsen Hill, Hesperus, Kendall Mountain, Loveland, Monarch, Powderhorn, Purgatory, Snowmass, Steamboat, Sunlight, Telluride and Winter Park.

However, this year, because of social distancing and other requirements, the 5th grade passes are only good Monday through Friday. And instead of being free, there is a $40 processing fee.

Sixth graders can get a similar pass for $99. That price is guaranteed through Oct. 8, 2020.

Regal UA

Regal Theaters offers the Regal Unlimited Movie Subscription Pass. Prices range from $18-$23.50 per month depending on how many theaters you want access to. The pass allows you unlimited movies all month, plus 10 percent off snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, special screenings and other deals. There is a surcharge for 4DX, IMAX and other special movies.

Alamo Drafthouse

The Alamo Drafthouse has three locations in the metro area and an unlimited movie plan called Alamo Season Pass. For $19.99 a month you can see one movie per day. There's an extra $1.99 fee for 3D, 70mm, Dolby Atmos, and Big Show movies.

Cinemark

Cinemark Theaters Movie Club offers one movie per month and 20 percent off concessions for $8.99. If you miss a month, the ticket rolls over to the next month.

The 5th grade passport is valid for three days at each of the 22 Colorado Ski Country member resorts. That's a total of 66 days.

The 6th grade passport is valid for four days of skiing or snowboarding at each of the 22 member resorts.

The pass is $130 until Jan. 31. After that, you won't be able to apply for this year.

DENVER The National Western Stock Show kicks off with a parade this Thursday!

Colorado businessman, legend and Stock Show enthusiast Jake Jabs will be the Parade Grand Marshal. Jabs will lead the traditional drive of Longhorn cattle, horses and western wagons through the streets of downtown Denver to celebrate the start of the 114th National Western Stock Show.

The parade begins at noon outside Union Station.

During the show's run, visitors can see livestock shows, rodeos, horse shows and much more.

The Young Eagles program is giving kids 8 years old up to 17 years old a chance to fly for free.

The Young Eagles program gives kids a full flight experience, which includes the pre-flight inspection, reviewing charts, touring the plane and going for a short flight.

"Get ready to have the experience of your lifetime," the young Eagles website reads. "We'll show you how to become a Young Eagle and taste the freedom of flight that most people only dream about."

There are 13 program coordinators across Colorado from Greeley to Pueblo to Delta.

DENVER November is a great time to see some of Denver's local museums and attractions for free.

Free days at the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature & Science and other locations are sponsored by the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District. It's a voter-approved special tax that helps fund more than 300 scientific and cultural organizations in the Denver metro area.

The Denver Zoo is offering free admission on Nov. 4 and 8.

Botanic Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield Farms is offering free admission on Nov. 5. The Denver Botanic Gardens downtown are free on Nov. 11.

Before you buy, make sure you ask if the store you're shopping at offers rewards or a loyalty program. I got $20 off at a shoe store because I was buying multiple pairs.

And check online, too. Colorado Mills has a deals and steals page online listing sales at multiple stores. So does the Outlets at Castle Rock.

If you'd like to cut down your own Christmas Tree this year, it's time to start making plans.

Applications for the Christmas Tree permit lottery at Golden Gate Canyon State Park are open from Nov. 1 to Nov. 12. The lottery will be held Nov. 13. Permits are $35.

The park will have one cutting day Dec. 7.

The Forest Service offers permits for $5-$20, depending on location.

DENVER If you want to see the Denver Nuggets play this season, the team is offering two ticket specials this season.

Family Nights

Family Nights are most Saturday and Sunday nights at the Pepsi Center. Each family member will receive a "loaded" value ticket with $15 in credit to buy merchandise, drinks, or food. Ticket prices typically start at $29 to $32 for the Family Nights tickets.

However, you may or may not save money on this special. Here's why when the non-Family Nights tickets on the same nights start at $16 and you pay $29 for a Family Nights ticket with $15 in credit, you're saving $2. But if the Family Nights tickets are $32 and regular tickets are $16, you're actually losing $1 compared to buying a $16 ticket and spending $15 extra on your own.

Nuggets Night Out

Nuggets Night Out events are on Thursdays and Fridays at the Pepsi Center. Like on Family Nights, each ticket comes with a "loaded" value ticket, in this case, with $10 in credit for merchandise, drinks and/or food.

On some nights, this is a good deal, but on others it's not.

Why? Some nights, regular tickets start at $29. If the Night Out tickets are $34 and include a $10 credit, that's a good deal. But when regular tickets start at $24, and Night Out tickets are $34, you're not saving any money.

Bottom line, check the regular price and check the promotion price, to make sure you really are getting a deal.

If you want to get a flu shot, many pharmacies and doctor's offices will charge your insurance company and give you a flu shot for free.

However, if your insurance doesn't cover it, or you don't have insurance, here are some of the prices this year:

Costco

Costco pharmacies offer the four-strain flu shot for $19.99. You don't have to be a member to get your flu shot at Costco. One note, the pharmacist told me several locations close for lunch from Noon-1:30 p.m., so call ahead and get your pharmacy's hours.

Zip Clinic Urgent Care

Zip Clinic Urgent Care locations are offering flu shots for $25.

AFC Urgent Care

AFC Urgent Care is offering flu shots for $25 for most adults, but it's $45 for people over age 65.

Rocky Mountain Urgent Care

Rocky Mountain Urgent Care is offering flu shots for $35.

CVS

Get a flu shot at a CVS pharmacy for free with insurance and they'll give you a coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase. If you don't have insurance, flu shots are $39.99. The high-dose vaccine is $69.99.

The Little Clinic/King Soopers

The Little Clinic in some King Soopers locations is offering flu shots for $40 to $60. Before you go, you can book an appointment online or see the wait time for walk-in services.

Walgreens

Walgreens is offering flu shots for $40.99.

The card costs $30, then users get to choose either two BOGO (buy one get one free) lift tickets or two 30% discount lift tickets at each of the 11 ski areas or one of each deal.

For 2019-2020, the participating ski areas are: Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Eldora, Granby Ranch, Monarch, Ski Cooper, Echo Mountain, Hesperus, Kendall Mountain, Powderhorn and Sunlight.

Google flights

Search your travel cities and dates on Google flights, then hit the button for the date graph or price graph to see prices for other dates.

Kayak

Search flight dates and cities on Kayak and Kayak will offer you "price alerts." They'll notify you when the price changes.

Hooper app

The Hooper app promises to predict prices with 95 percent accuracy up to one year in advance.

AirFareWatchDog

Go to the AirFareWatchDog website and you'll see a list of today's top fares for your city. Search the city you want to fly to and you'll be offered a button that says "track this route."

Fare Compare

Fare Compare also offers to email you when there's a price change.
