Jim Bishop bought the land for $450 when he was 15, and construction on Bishop Castle began in 1969. With no real experience in this type of building, Bishop simply started placing stones and learned as he went. Over the decades, Bishop has battled Washington bureaucrats, state and local governments, and even his own friend over his rights and control of the castle. To this day, this amazing work of art remains free and open to the public. Watch your step!
